Inverness/Victoria Federation of Agriculture receives Federal and Provincial Government Support for its Machinery Co-op

Cape Breton-Canso MP Rodger Cuzner has announced a $183,720 non-repayable contribution through ACOA’s Business development program for the Inverness-Victoria Federation of Agriculture. The province also provided an $80,000 loan to the project, which will see the federation purchase new farming equipment for community use.

The equipment will include a round baler, vertical beater manure spreader, sprayer, clearing saw, bale processor, liquid manure spreader and more.

Chris van den Heuvel, president, Inverness/Victoria Federation of Agriculture, said his group has been running a machinery co-op since the 1970s. He said the program grew in popularity in recent years, noting it allows people to rent equipment when its needed.

Van den Heuvel said Agriculture was recently named in a federal government report as the number one growth industry in Canada in the next 15-20 years. He thanked ACOA for the support and they are looking forward to serving their members with the new equipment.
