Kyle Delorey of Larry’s River was one of three recent recipients of the 2026 Lieutenant-Governor’s Award for Excellence for l’Acadie and Francophonie.

A provincial release states the awards go to people making a meaningful difference in Nova Scotia, particularly for Acadian and francophone communities. Delorey won in the u25 category, noting he was nominated by someone with la societe acadienne de Torbe.
The 17-year-old recently graduated from Guysborough Academy after attending Ecole acadienne de Pomquet for three years. He said before entering Grade 9 he spoke very little French. He noted at the time there was a movement to get a fully bilingual school in Tor Bay but someone needed to go to the Pomquet school to show the need in the area.
Delorey also did a lot of volunteer work for la societe acadienne de Torbe, adding it feels great to be recognized and he is very proud.
