Yesterday, the minister of environment and climate change granted environmental assessment approval for the Ocean Lake Wind project in Guysborough County, subject to several conditions.
EverWind NS Holdings Ltd and Membertou Development Corporation, registered the Ocean Lake Wind Project for environmental assessment on May 13. It is the largest wind energy project approved in Nova Scotia to date.
A release on the decision states the backers are looking to construct and operate a wind power project with up to 158 turbines capable of generating up to 1,264 megawatts of renewable electricity. The p roject also includes other infrastructure such as access roads, electrical lines, one or more substations, laydown yards, and buildings.
The project is located near the communities of New Harbour, Goldboro, Larry’s River, Lundy and Roachvale in the Municipality of the District of Guysborough, in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia. Construction is set to begin in 2029 and is expected to be operational for 35 years.
