Local Fire Departments received Funding from Province to Purchase Emergency Equipment.

A number of local first responder organizations received provincial grants to help purchase emergency equipment. The announcement was made this morning by Municipal Affairs Minister Chuck Porter. Across the province, more than $1.25 million was awarded by Nova Scotia government to 74 fire departments and ground search and rescue organizations. Locally, the Alma, Canso Hazel Hill, Eureka, Milford Haven, New Glasgow, North East Margaree, Plymouth, Port Hastings, Scotsburn, Thorburn and District and West River Fire Departments each received $20,000.

The Tracadie District Fire Department is getting more than $18,000, while the Baddeck and Cheticamp Fire Departments were given more than $14,000. The Liscomb Fire Department receives more than $13,000; while the Louisdale Fire Department and Strait Area Ground Search and Rescue are being presented with more than $11,000.

St. Andrews Fire Department is receiving more than $9,300, the Inverness Fire Department is getting just over $7,000 and Pictou Island Volunteer Fire Fighters Association will be presented with $6,900.
