Several local players were picked in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s entry draft this weekend. Two members of the Pictou County Weeks Major Midgets were taken in the second round, defenceman Brayden Schmitt by Blainville-Boisbriand Armada and forward Lucas Canning by the Cape Breton Eagles.
In the 6th round, Weeks Midgets Center Kiefer Avery was picked by the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. In the 12th round, defenceman Liam Trenholm of the Cape Breton West Islanders was chosen by the Cape Breton Eagles.
In other draft news, goaltender Colten Ellis of River Denys was traded by the Rimouski Oceanic to the Charlottetown Islanders for three draft picks. Ellis was fourth in the QMJHL with a 2.41 goals against average this past season and is a third round NHL draft pick by the St. Louis Blues.
