Man Barricades Himself inside His Apartment in New Glasgow

New Glasgow Regional Police have made an arrest after a man barricaded himself inside his apartment on Friday.  Police say shortly after 12 noon Friday, police were called to a Hillcrest Avenue apartment complex on a report of a banging sound.

Police and the New Glasgow Fire Department closed nearby streets to vehicles and pedestrians for several hours during the incident.

At around 9:10 Friday evening, police with the assistance of the Pictou County Street Crime Enforcement Unit, New Glasgow Fire Department, Emergency Health Services and the RCMP Critical Incident Team from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick safely apprehended the man.  He was held under the Involuntary Psychiatric Treatment Act.  No one was injured.

The 66-year-old Pictou County man has been charged with Careless Use of a Fire and Unsafe Storage of a Firearm.

A hold and secure of the area was lifted at 9:35 Friday evening
