Pictou County District RCMP arrested a 46-year-old Bigney man and seized multiple firearms following in incident over the weekend.
At 8:19 p.m. on January 16, Pictou County District RCMP responded to a complaint of a discharged firearm, resulting in injury. A 46-year-old man tried to use a handgun to euthanize his dog, which had bitten several people. The man fired and missed the dog, instead striking a 21-year-old man who was also inside the home.
The accused was arrested on scene and later released on conditions. The 21-year old victim was transported to hospital and released with minor injuries. The dog is alive and has been seized by Animal Control.
As a result of a search of the residence, police seized 29 long guns and 9 handguns.
The investigation is ongoing with assistance from the RCMP Forensic Identification Section (FIS), the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST) and Pictou County Bylaw Enforcement Animal Control.
The accused is scheduled to appear virtually in Pictou Provincial Court on March 29, at 9:30 a.m. to face multiple firearm related offences.
