The Margaree Salmon Association is concerned by a recommendation of an independent advisory panel to the Federal Environment Minister.
Last month, the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada proposed that the Atlantic Salmon in Cape Breton Island and the Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence be classified as endangered.

Association vice-president Bill Haley says should the Environment and the Federal Fisheries Departments agree with the committee’s findings, the impact would be much more than prohibiting angling of the Salmon.
Haley says this could end a lot of good conservation work being done by a number of non-government organizations.
Haley says the MSA will work closely with the Nova Scotia Salmon Federation and the Atlantic Salmon Federation to challenge the data being used to support this recommendation
