The company behind a proposed spaceport in Canso says things were slow last year but they continue to make progress.

A Cyclone 4M Rocket from Ukraine that will be used by Maritime Launch Services to send satellites into space from the Canso/Hazel Hill area.

Steve Matier, CEO of Maritime Launch Services, said the company is trying to dig out from 2020 and are looking forward to a more productive 2021. Matier said they are moving forward with the land lease process, and working on their compliance pieces for the Department of Environment and federal government. He said they also continue to get letters of intent from satellite clients and expect to be able to provide the Department of Environment with a progress report  by the end of the month.

Construction on the project is expected to last 18 months, followed by six months of commissioning, so the company is at least two years away from first launch. The main project is set to include a launch control center, as well as a horizontal integration facility and a vertical launch area connected by a 2.4 kilometer transportation route, including a road and a railway.  MLS selected a site near the Canso-Hazel Hill area as the location for its rocket launch facility in 2017.
