Earlier today Michelin North America Inc. announced two new projects for the Michelin Pictou County site. Production will soon begin on a new winter tire line along with the North American launch of a process for semi-finished materials. Michelin says these projects, valued at $9 million and $12 million respectively, will add 150 new positions at the Michelin Pictou County site, and will make permanent 200 temporary positions that were slated previously to end in 2020.
Jeff MacLean, president of Michelin North America, called the news amazing, noting the two projects push Michelin’s employment in Nova Scotia to more than 3,600, the highest employment level in its almost 50-year presence in the province.
This new tire line will begin production in the fall of 2019 and will be available for consumers in 2020.
The semi-finished materials project is set to include state-of-the art equipment, building renovations and new storage facilities at the site. This project will span 2019–2020 and will add 20 new employees to the site.
