Aug 18, 2025 | Local News

New Glasgow Regional Police say two people have been arrested after officers received a call from staff at a local Inn they found a firearm during a room cleaning.

Police were alerted by the Inn late Saturday morning. Officers seized a loaded 9 millimetre handgun and ammunition from the room.

The two occupants of the room returned to the Inn early Saturday afternoon and were arrested on site without incident.

Police say a preliminary investigation has determined the gun was stolen from a break-in that occurred in Great Village in 2019.

31-year-old Collan Olson of Hilden and 25-year-old Kyla Borden from Truro are charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Restricted Firearm without Authorization, Possession of a Prohibited/Restricted Firearm with Ammunition, Possession of a Prohibited Device and Unsafe Storage of a Firearm. Borden faces additional charges of Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Unauthorized Possession of Ammunition.

Both individuals were remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Pictou Monday. New Glasgow Regional Police continue to investigate.

Police commended the quick actions of the Inn staff in immediately calling them. They say their actions prevented a serious community public safety risk.
