New Glasgow Seeks Volunteers for a Tree-Planting To Replace Those Lost to Fiona

Oct 18, 2023 | Local News

The Town of New Glasgow is asking for volunteers to help out with a tree planting event taking place this weekend.

With help from Tree Canada, the Town of New Glasgow is planting 80 new trees as part of the Tree-mendous Communities Grant. The town organized a community tree planting event for Saturday, October 21, taking place at the Ward One Community Centre, and the Northend Community Centre Annex Field beginning at 10 am. There will be a planting demonstration, and tips offered as well.

Tony Mummery, forester with the Town of New Glasgow, said the community lost a large number of trees during post-tropical storm Fiona. He called this a first step in trying to replace some of them, noting the plantings were targeted at key community infrastructure.

Mummery said a number of trees were already planted at the Annex field near New Glasgow Academy, with Grade 3 classes planting 28 of the 80 trees.
