Following discussions with the family of Viola Desmond, a shelter in New Glasgow formerly known as Viola’s place is now called Northstar Shelter and Support Services.
Lisa Deyoung, executive director of the shelter, said the work behind the name change took some time.
Deyoung called it a new approach and fresh start for the facility, adding the front facing name and everything they are operating as is represented as Northstar Shelter and Support services. She said the shelter is still up and running as usual.
