This weekend, the names of five Nova Scotia firefighters will be added to a national memorial in
Ottawa including one from Antigonish County. The memorial honours firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty or died within two years of retirement.
The Canadian Firefighters Memorial opened in Ottawa in 2012. It was established by the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
Among those to be added is Art Andrews, who founded the Auld’s Cove Volunteer Fire Department in the late 1960’s.
Other Nova Scotians to be added to the wall are Todd Arenburg of Bridgewater, Skyler Blackie of Truro, Christopher Myers of Enfield and David Galley of Waterville.
In all, 82 names from across Canada will be added to the memorial, bringing the total number of Canadian firefighters listed at 1,811.
