Nova Scotia Power asks Customers to Conserve Power as the Province encounters Very Cold Temperatures

Jan 24, 2026 | Regional News

As the province endures extreme cold temperatures, Nova Scotia Power is asking customers to conserve energy.

The utility says with the very cold weather, more energy is needed by customers for heating and that’s putting significant pressure on the power system.

NS Power is asking customers conserve energy, especially during peak hours of the day from 7am to 11am, and 5pm to 9pm.

The easiest ways to conserve energy are to turn off high consumption appliances and select the lowest comfortable thermostat setting.

The company says it has been preparing all power generating sites this week to make sure they are producing as much power as possible. The company is also using our their new grid-scale battery sites and working with  neighbouring utilities to support each other wherever we can.
