The Nova Scotia Regulatory and Appeals Board has approved an application by the Municipality of the County of Antigonish to confirm the number of councilors at 10 and to alter the boundaries of polling districts.
The Nova Scotia Municipal Government act mandates that every municipality review its number of councilors and polling districts every eight years. Back in 2021, the county asked the former Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board to defer such a decision during discussions of a possible consolidation with the Town of Antigonish. After consolidation was off the table, county council asked to keep the status quo for the 2024 municipal election and then filed its latest review in December, 2025.

The decision from the board states the variance for the number of electors per polling district for all polling districts except District 5 falls within the plus or minus 10 per cent guideline applied by the board. The decision also states the municipality described District 5 as mainly comprised of the hub of Pomquet, a community it called culturally unique due to its strong Acadian roots and French speaking population.
Warden Nicholas MacInnis said public engagement for the electoral boundary review began in August of 2025.
MacInnis said these polling district boundaries will apply in the next municipal election.
