The Nova Scotia SPCA has launched its own tartan.
Spokesperson Sarah Lyon says there are six colours in the pattern, representing the people and the animals the agency serves. The tartan is registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans.
Red represents the first peoples of Nova Scotia, Gold is for the over 400 years of contributions to the province by those of African descent, while Silver respresents protection. The colour Blue is for welcoming newcomers to Nova Scotia, Green depicts new beginnings while White is the eternal colour of hope.

Lyon says after its long history with families, having a SPCA tartan makes sense.
Lyon says as a fund-raiser it has a number of items for sale featuring the SPCA tartan on its web site. They include dog and cat collars, scarves, neckties, collar bow ties, scrunchies and pocket squares
