Nova Scotia Universities, including St. FX, have taken steps to improve access to higher education for military personnel, veterans, reservists and their families.
The Council of Nova Scotia University Presidents has reached an Memorandum of Understanding with the Canadian Military, Veteran and Family Connected Campus Consortium.

The President’s Council’s Chair is St. FX President Andy Hakin. He says the province is host to more than 13,000 military personnel and another 1,600 reservists and many are looking to continue their post-secondary education. Hakin says some are moving from base to base while studying and so universities need to understand the struggles they are facing and provide support.
Hakin says that can include assessing credits earned at other institutions outside the province and ensuring they receive the maximum benefit to the Nova Scotia Universities they transfer into.
Hakin says at St. FX that also means providing supports for military personnel and their families to be able to study, in both classroom and by distance.
