NSCC Looks to Use Richmond County’s Joint Industrial Park for Training

May 15, 2019 | Local News

During the committee-of-the-whole meeting of Richmond Municipal Council Monday night in Arichat, interim Richmond Chief Administrative Officer Don Marchand told council that the NSCC Strait Area Campus wants permission to use Richmond County’s Joint Industrial Park to train students in the heavy equipment operator program.
In addition to helping the local school, Richmond was told the students can help clean up the property.
District 4 councillor Gilbert Boucher said he is not opposed to the idea, but wants to know what kind of condition they will leave the property in, noting in other parts of the country, these training grounds are in bad shape.
District 2 councillor Alvin Martell said potential liability issues need to be cleared up before any approval is granted and Richmond Warden Brian Marchand agreed, pointing out there have to be contingencies for any damage to infrastructure.
Council agreed to investigate the school’s plans for the property, as well as any liability issues that might arise from their use.
