PC Candidate Claude Bourgeois wins the Chéticamp-Margarees-Pleasant Bay By-Election

PC candidate Claude Bourgeois has been elected the MLA for the new provincial riding of Chéticamp-Margarees-Pleasant Bay.

Unofficial results show Bourgeois, a local businessman, garnered 1,315 votes in Tuesday’s by-election,  48.7 per cent of all ballots cast.

Runner-up Denis Cormier of the Liberals received 1,080 votes.  The NDP’s Trevor Poirier had 258, and Green Party candidate Nik Boisvert received the support of 44 voters.

A total of 68 per cent of eligible voters cast ballots in this by-election.

Some of the issues in this campaign included healthcare, roads, economic growth, and connectivity.
