Antigonish Mayor Sean Cameron said site visits by the company tasked with the third phase of the Active Transportation Trail will begin on Thursday. Cameron said he understands the work will begin shortly thereafter, adding it will be done in sections.

The Town of Antigonish announced it awarded a tender of $834,846 to BD Clifton Contracting limited for the third phase of the Active Transportation trail. Last Month, the town voted to ask other levels of government about how much it would cost the town if the town voted to not proceed with further work on the project. Cameron said he has not heard back yet.
Phase 4 of the four phase project would see trail building connecting Church Street to Columbus Field, following the river, coming up through the field and connecting to Main Street by the tennis courts.
The work for phase 3 of the AT project will include an asphalt path and replacing the existing sidewalk to enable improved mobility, connecting the existing trail on West Street, along St. Ninian Street, ending at Church Street with construction expected to take eight weeks.
