A bit of debate at Pictou County council over municipal grants for school breakfast programs.
At last night’s meeting, council debated a motion to give 8 schools in the county $1,000 each in support of their breakfast programs for students. This is more than the usual amount given by council, recognizing a greater need due to COVID-19.
Some councillors asked whether they should fund schools in nearby towns as well, for example McCullogh Education Centre in Pictou, as there are a percentage of students enrolled who live in the county.
It was decided to have staff look into the numbers to bring back to council, where they will debate whether to contribute funds, and what amounts.
