Pictou County Council debated a couple of measures to help low-income families.
Council voted to raise the amounts and limits on property tax exemption – the new by-law allows up to $250 off the property tax bill for those whose primary residence is in the county, and whose annual combined income is less than $30,000.
Council also voted 7-5 to write a letter to both the provincial and federal governments urging them to develop a plan for a Guaranteed Livable Basic Income.
