The annual Tri-County swim meet was hosted by the Pictou Mariners today, the Port Hawkesbury Antigonish Swim Team, PHAST, divided into their former teams, Antigonish Aquanauts and Port Hawkesbury Thunderbolts for this unique event! The Antigonish Aquanauts took first place in the meet with most points earned and combined as PHAST the team took 15 on the 21 top place swims! For 15 & Over boys Jacob Bennett took 1st place, Carter van de Wiel 2nd, while Paula Garcia took 1st place for the 15 and over girls! In 13-14 year old action Matthew Penner took 1st, Malcolm Cameron2nd, and Jack Clappeton 3rd for the boys, with Jessica MacKinnon taking 1st, Matinia Kanchanatip 2nd, and Meghan Hayes third for the girls! In 12 and under swims Liam Kennedy took 1st, with Clayton van de Wiel 2nd and Vaughn Levesconte 3rd, while Anna Robinson swam to 1st for the 12 and under girls! Cein Kennedy stroked to 2nd for the under 10 boys with Zack Ellsworth close behind in 3rd! Kieran McInnis got his GOLD standard level and graduated from Nova Tech to Age Group and Baileigh Bekkes won her SILVER level Standard today as well. New team records were set by Jacob Bennett in the 50m Butterfly and by Ewan Kennedy for 25m Butterfly!
PHAST then reunited to celebrate a great season of swimming at their annual awards banquet. Several swimmers received awards for high points earned, most time dropped, and Coach’s awards. Paula Garcia was voted Swimmer of the Year by her team mates, and shared the FINA Swim of the Year prize with Morley MacKinnon. The Lucille Silver Senior Swimmer prize went to Rebecca Roussy and the Kevin van de Sande Junior Swimmer of Excellence was awarded to Anna Robinson.
