Port Hawkesbury Changes Garbage Collection to include Green Carts for Organics and Clear Bags for Garbage

Oct 22, 2020 | Local News

There are some significant changes in garbage collection in the town of Port Hawkesbury. Included in the changes, which begin this week, is the introduction of Green Carts for disposing of organic waste. The Solid Waste Program Coordinator for the town, Nicole Latimer, says the Green Carts were delivered to local homes last week. Latimer says included in the Green Carts is a sorting guide and new collection schedule. Other changes include moving to clear bags from black bags for garbage. Latimer senses town residents are adjusting well to the changes.

Latimer says there is a grace period where residents can use up the remainder of their black bags in the home. Information on the changes, including the sorting guide and collection schedule can be found on the Town of Port Hawkesbury’s web site.
