The Town of Port Hawkesbury is sending a letter to the MLA for Inverness about cellular phone service.
At last night’s monthly public meeting, Port Hawkesbury Town Council approved a motion from Town Councillor Blaine MacQuarrie to send a letter to Kyle MacQuarrie about what he called a “deteriorating” level of service.
In response to a question from Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton about how prevalent the problem is, MacQuarrie said he’s been hearing from residents frustrated that they have to go outside their homes to make or take a call.
Despite the cost for such a service, MacQuarrie said after the meeting that it is “getting worse, rather than improving.”

MacQuarrie said the problem is taking place around the town, but there appear to be some “dead zones” in Port Hawkesbury. He said the problem has been going on for more than a year.
Noting that there are concerns about cell service around rural Nova Scotia, MacQuarrie said the Cellular For Nova Scotia, with an aim to expand cell service around the province, might provide some help with this issue.
Pointing out that cell service is “not top-notch” across rural Nova Scotia, Town Councillor Iaian Langley said he supports sending the advocacy letter.
