The Town of Port Hawkesbury discussed a change in emergency management.
At the monthly public meeting of Port Hawkesbury Town Council on Tuesday night, CAO Terry Doyle talked about Environment and Climate Change Canada’s new colour-coded system as part of its national weather alert program.
Designed to make weather information clearer for Canadians, the department said each type of weather alert – warnings, advisories, and watches – now include a colour to show the seriousness of the weather event.
The department said yellow alerts are the most common, orange alerts are issued for severe weather, and red alerts are issued for life-threatening weather.
Calling it a “fairly extensive” change, the CAO expects this new information will be reflected in the town’s emergency management document.
