Province Offers Property Tax Relief to Hotel, Motel and Inn Operators

Oct 29, 2020 | Local News

The Province is offering assistance to hotel, motel and inn operators with their property tax bills during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Business Minister Geoff MacLellan has announced the province has created the Tourism Accommodations Real Property Tax Rebate Program.  It provides qualified operators a 25 per cent rebate on payment of their 2020-2021 commercial property tax. The program opens on November 16th.
Qualified operators  for the period of April First to October 31st must have incurred a year-over-year revenue loss for room accommodations of greater than 30 per cent compared to the same period last year.   New operators who were not in business before April first may still receive a rebate if they can show lower than 50 per cent occupancy rate since they opened.
