Province allows public school Gyms for Community Use

Nov 4, 2020 | Local News

The province is allowing public school gyms, including several in the local area, to start reopening to community groups for sports and other physical activities.

The province says the move follows a safe start to the school year during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Community access will be restricted to gyms and washrooms. The province is setting aside $5.5 million of federal funding from the Safe Return to Class Fund so regional centres for education and CSAP Schools can hire staff for extra cleaning.

The province says it is also waiving rental fees for this school year to ensure equitable access to indoor activities with the approach of winter. Lists of schools taking bookings are listed on CSAP and regional centres for education web sites including the Strait and Chignecto-Central Regional Centres for Education.
