Province announces 20 New Cases of COVID-19

During Thursday’s update on the COVID-19 situation in the province, Nova Scotia’s Health Authority announced 20 new cases, bringing the total to 193. The province also confirmed 900 COVID-19

tests were completed at the QEII Health Sciences Centre’s microbiology lab.

While most cases in Nova Scotia are connected to travel or a known case, is one confirmed case of community transmission and more cases are expected to present.

As of today, Nova Scotia has 7,446 negative test results and 193 confirmed cases, with those confirmed ranging in age from under 10 to over 80. Five people are currently in hospital and 16 people have now recovered and their cases of COVID-19 are considered resolved.

During the announcement, Dr. Robert Strang, Nova Scotia’s chief medical officer of health, said the province is working on an online map that breaks the cases down by health zone, which he said is going live today. Of the 193 cases, 22 cases are in the northern zone, which reaches from Truro to New Glasgow and up to Amherst. The Eastern zone, which includes Antigonish and Cape Breton, has 21 cases.

Nova Scotia is extending a state of emergency imposed over the coronavirus pandemic for another two weeks.

Cabinet decided during a teleconference today to ask the Lieutenant Governor to extend the emergency declaration to at least April 19th.
