Province announces New Program where Consumers get a Discount Purchasing Locally Grown Food

Jan 12, 2026 | Regional News

A new government program will see consumers offered a discount for purchasing locally grown food directly from farmers.

A release from the province states the new program is called the Nova Scotia Loyal Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Incentive Pilot Program, and it will see participating farms provide a 10 per cent discount to customers and be reimbursed by Nova Scotia Loyal.

The president of the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture, Alicia King with Agriculture Minister Greg Morrow (contributed)

Guysborough-Tracadie MLA and Agriculture Minister Greg Morrow said government developed the program in response to feed back from consumers and farm operators. Morrow explained farmers can register through the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture and then people can buy directly from that farm with a discount, with the farm reimbursed through Nova Scotia Loyal.

The discount will apply to community-based agriculture subscriptions, also known as farm shares, where people pay for a share of the food the farm produces. Morrow said the programs supports consumers finding local food at a discount while also supporting farm operators.

The release states farmers can now apply to be in the program.
