Premier Stephen McNeil

committing to the public health protocols, saying everyone’s efforts helped managed to flatten the curve.

There is one new case of COVID-19 in the Western Zone.

He said the new case identified is an essential worker connected to travel, noting it shows COVID is still out there and people need to remain careful.

McNeil said this is the reason the province doubled down on its testing for university students coming for outside the Atlantic bubble, a strategy he says worked.

The government also announced a continued easing of restrictions in long-term care homes, allowing residents to enjoy off-site day visits with family in their homes.

The off-site visits must be pre-arranged with the facility, which will maintain a record of trips, and residents will not be required to self-isolate upon return as long as they follow key public health measures like wearing a medical mask when required, maintaining physical distance, respecting gathering limits, washing their hands frequently, and ensuring the environment they’re in is clean.

Upon return to the facility, staff will review the outing with the resident and support person

Individual long-term care homes will work to implement these changes as early as September 28.
