Here’s a sign that winter won’t be with us for much longer. The provincial transportation 
department has announced spring weight restrictions will begin on all provincial roads begin March 2nd. Restrictions will begin in almost a dozen counties then, including Pictou County. The remainder of the local area; including Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, Richmond and Victoria Counties will begin spring weight restrictions on March 9th.
Weight restrictions are imposed on heavy vehicles during the spring thaw to protect roads that are weakened by mild and wet weather. They are usually in place for two months. Some roads including 100-series highways are exempt from the restrictions.
