Several local transit services in northeastern Nova Scotia are getting some help from the province to purchase new equipment. The department of Communities, Culture and Heritage
has announced it is spending $707,674 to help eleven organizations to purchase accessible vehicles to make health care, food, employment and education easier for people to access. The province’s Accessible Transportaion Assistance Program covers up to 75 per cent the cost of buying or modifying accessible buses or vans, up to a maximum of $75,000.

Central Highlands Association of the Disabled in Pictou will get the maximum amount of $75,000 for an 18-passenger bus. Antigonish Community Transit is receiving $57,000 for an eight passenger van. Strait Area Transit will also get an eight passenger van with its $55,385 from the province.
The Transport Cooperative of Cheticamp is acquiring a five passenger van with the $17,353 in government funding.
