The province is spending an additional $20 million to protect more land and water. It has
designated another 9,300 hectares of Crown property.
The $20 million will go to the Nova Scotia Crown Share Land Legacy Trust, which helps private land conservation organizations with the cost of acquiring and protecting private land.
The province will create six new nature reserves and will expand seven other existing ones.
Local ecological sites announced as new nature reserves include 567 hectares at Pictou County’s Barney’s River. Also announced were two properties in Inverness County, the Glendyer Nature Reserve covering 276 hectares and 22 hectares at Les Caps Nature Reserve.
One local wilderness area that was expanded in size was Eigg Mountain-James River in Antigonish County; it will grow by 71 hectares
