Province reports 13 new cases of COVID-19 over Two Days

Provincial Health and Wellness Department officials are reporting 13 new cases in Nova Scotia for yesterday and today.

On Friday, 11 cases were identified; 10 in Central Zone and one in Northern Zone.  In Central Zone, eight are close contacts of previously reported cases and two are linked to travel outside of Atlantic Canada.  The lone Northern Zone case is travel to outside the Atlantic region.

Today, two cases were reported , one in Central Zone linked to travel outside of Atlantic Canada and one in Northern Zone that is under investigation.

Five of the cases reported on Friday are at Churchill Academy, a private school in Dartmouth.  There were two other recent cases at the school, for a total of seven.  Public Health has been in contact with the school community and is arranging testing for all staff and students.  The last day of class was on December 18.  The students are scheduled to return to class on January 11th.

There are now 27 active cases of the virus. One person is in hospital.

Premier Stephen McNeil says it’s another reminder of how COVID-19  leaps at any chance to spread.  He says as we start a new year, we must remain vigilant about following public health protocols.
