Province Supports local Community Food Literacy Projects

A number of local groups have received funding for the province for Community Food Literacy and Access projects.

Three initiatives worth $11,500 are being supported in Cheticamp. There’s $5,000 for a Community Gardens Project from the Cheticamp Arts Council, $5,000 for a Community Meals on Wheels and Frozen Food Delivery with the Cheticamp Kinsmen Club and $1,500 to the Cheticamp Transport Cooperative for a Free Deliveries or Pickups project.

The Tartan Society of Judique will receive $5,000 for a project it calls Community Food Web. The Town of Port Hawkesbury is getting $3,550 for a Community Garden project. There’s $2,500 going to the Scotsburn Recreation Club for phase one of its Scotsburn Community Food Forest.

The Antigonish Affordable Housing Society has been granted $1,700 for its project Healthy Food in Our Gardens.

In all, the project is supporting 39 programs at a cost of more than $134,000.
