The province and the feds say they will establish a comprehensive joint public inquiry looking at Nova Scotia’s mass shooting in April. A release from the province states the inquiry will help determine what happened and will make recommendations to help prevent similar tragic events in the future.
Nova Scotia Justice minister Mark Furey and the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness for Canada, Bill Blair, stated J. Michael MacDonald will serve as chief commissioner, while Kim Stanton and Leanne J. Fitch will also serve as commissioners.
The commission’s first task is setting up their Nova Scotia centered secretariat. An interim report is due May 1, 2022, and a final report is due November 1, 2022.
