RCMP Investigate Suspicious Death in Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation

The RCMP is investigating a suspicious death that occurred in the Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation.

Police say officers were called were called to a report of a sudden death shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday at a home at Petow Loop Extension.  The victim is a 40-year-old Paqtnkek man and his death is being treated by investigators as suspicious.

A 27-year-old Paqtnkek male,  who RCMP say was known to the victim, was arrested and is now in custody.

Investigators say at this time, it is not believed this was a random act and there’s no risk to the public.

The investigation, led by Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit, is ongoing with assistance by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Service and the RCMP Forensic Identification Section.
