RCMP Reports To Antigonish Council on a Number of Issues Raised by Municipal Leaders

Oct 19, 2021 | Local News

Antigonish Town Council members heard from a local RCMP representative last night on a number of issues brought forward during last month’s regular council meeting.

Last month, councillors voiced complaints they received and even observed themselves of problematic behaviour in the area. A number of residents, some from Arbour Drive, also attended the meeting regard those same concerns.

RCMP Sgt. Warren MacBeath addressed council on items such as public drinking, loud mufflers, and speeding within the town and surrounding area. MacBeath said the county is dealing with similar issues, noting there was an increase in things like speeding and loud mufflers this summer and early fall. He also said police continue to look into those matters and will appear again as early as next month with a follow up.

Mayor Laurie Boucher commended the RCMP for taking the matters seriously.

Boucher said it is a busy season when students come back and recognize it is a busy time for the RCMP. She said she was happy to see police looking at the issues as priorities.
