Richmond Council says no to a Request from Strait Area Transit for GPS Units

Nov 26, 2019 | Local News

Richmond County denied a request from Strait Area Transit for new GPS units.

During last night’s regular monthly meeting of Richmond Municipal Council in Arichat, Warden Brian Marchand agreed to send a letter to the transit co-operative outlining their reasons.

According to district 4 councillor Gilbert Boucher, GPS units only work if vehicles are regularly monitored, explaining that Richmond County installed GPS units on municipal vehicles and has not received good value for that investment. He suggested that if Strait Area Transit needs money for such projects that they instead raise their fares.

District 1 councillor James Goyetche noted that the municipality pays the RCMP to monitor speed and that some insurance companies will pay for such equipment.
