Richmond County Supports Bell Aliant’s High Speed Internet Expansion Plans in the County

Mar 17, 2020 | Local News

Richmond County is supporting an application by Bell Aliant to expand high speed Internet access to more parts of the municipality.

During a special emergency meeting on Monday in Arichat, Richmond Municipal Council reviewed correspondence from Mark Duggan, senior manager public affairs and government relations (Atlantic) with Bell Aliant.
Duggan wrote council to let them know Bell Aliant wants to expand high speed Internet service to the St. Peter’s, French Cove and Potlotek First Nation areas under a $750 million CRTC broadband fund.

To ensure Bell Aliant’s application to the CRTC Broadband Fund is successful, council agreed to Bell Aliant’s request to send a letter supporting their application by March 20.
While they voted to send a letter of support, district 1 councillor James Goyetche and Deputty Warden Alvin Martell wondered why other areas of the municipality, like Isle Madame, are not included.
