Richmond Deputy Warden says Province Will Monitor Oil Waste Disposal Sites in Municipality

Oct 26, 2021 | Local News

Richmond’s Deputy Warden said the provincial government plans to monitor oil waste disposal sites around the municipality.

Melanie Sampson told last night’s regular monthly session of Richmond Municipal Council that she was approached by a resident about a month ago and did some investigating.

Sampson said the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables wants to build roads and do testing of areas housing oil from the Arrow and Kurdistan groundings in the 1970s. In the MacIntyre’s Lake area, for example, she said there will be five test wells installed.

Sampson told council test results will be sent to the federal Department of Environment and Climate Change to determine next steps.

Anyone with questions is asked to call 902-634-7554 or search “Arrow” or “Kurdistan” on the provincial government’s web site.
