Richmond Municipal Council will apply for funding under the Municipal Capital Growth Program for a driveway and sidewalk project in Arichat first, then for accessibility upgrades at facilities owned by the municipality.
During last night’s regular monthly meeting, CAO Troy MacCulloch told council a decision was required to meet the Dec. 13 deadline.
In response to a question from District 3 Councillor Melanie Sampson, MacCulloch explained that the the Highway 206 to Ecole Beau-Port municipal office sidewalk extension project was prioritiz
ed because of all the work that had already been done on that project. He noted there are other grant avenues available for accessibility upgrades.
Deputy Warden Shawn Samson agreed that leveraging funds from the growth fund is the best approach and the sidewalk project is “higher in value,” which provides more bang for the buck.
Noting this allows the municipality to stretch their money, Warden Amanda Mombourquette said the municipality will apply under the program for the Ecole Beau-Port sidewalk/driveway project and accessibility upgrades to municipal facilities, in that order
