The Town of Antigonish is joining governments and organizations across the nation and in 40 countries world-wide in recognizing the public’s right to information.
Town Mayor Laurie Boucher has signed a proclamation delclaring September 25th to October first as Right to Know Week.
The purpose of Right to Know Week Week is to to raise awareness of an individual’s right to access government information, while promoting freedom of information as essential to both democracy and good governance.
Boucher says being open with public on what it’s doing is a priority with the town.
Right to Know had its beginnings in 2002. During a meeting in Bulgaria of access to information advocates from 15 countries, it was proposed to dedicate September 28th to the promotion of Freedom of Information world-wide.
