Sarah O’Toole begins role as new Community Navigator to Assist in the Recruitment and Retention of Physicians in Antigonish Town and County

Feb 5, 2021 | Local News

The Community Navigation and Physician Retention Services Association has its new community navigator.

The association, a partnership between the town and county of Antigonish  and the St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation, as well as the community navigator position are designed to help bring doctors to the area and help keep them here. Stepping to the role, Antigonish’s Sarah O’Toole said she is building on the previous work by volunteer, physician led committees who looked at improving local doctor recruitment, retention, and promotion.

While there is a Nova Scotia Heath Authority recruiter, O’Toole said people noticed doctors would come to the area with families and the success of their stay depended, at least in part, on how well the whole household integrated into the community.

O’Toole took up the new role on January 18.
