Several St. FX Students ordered to Self-Isolate Following Weekend Social Gathering on Highland Drive in Antigonish

Oct 7, 2020 | Local News

There’s a new development regarding several weekend parties in Antigonish where RCMP charged three people with failing to social distance, four others under the Liquor Act and one under the Town’s Noise By-Law.

St. FX University’s Vice President of Students Elizabeth Yeo says the school has learned that a

non-St. FX student from outside the Atlantic bubble did not properly self-isolate for the 14-day mandatory period, and attended a social gathering on Highland Drive Saturday evening.  Yeo, in a letter to the St. FX community and the public says upon learning of this, the university contacted Public Health to determine appropriate next steps.  The university also directed the students of the residence where the gathering took place to self-isolate for 14 days.  RCMP were also contacted and are investigating.

The university is asking that any student that was at that social on Saturday to minimize their time in the community, and monitor their personal health over the next several days, wear masks, observe social distancing and practice good hygiene.

St. FX Athletics Director Leo MacPherson says he has been informed that student-athletes also attended the Highland Drive social in numbers greater than the allowable limits mandated by Public Health.  MacPherson says this is a direct violation of the St. FX Code of Conduct and will be subject to the university’s disciplinary process.   As a result practice and training privileges for all varsity teams are suspended until October 19th, pending the outcome of the investigation.
