Several local hospitals are facing temporary closures of their emergency departments in the 
coming week.
At the Victoria County Memorial Hospital in Baddeck, there is no overnight coverage this weekend in the ER. The emergency department will close today, tomorrow and Sunday at 4 p.m. and re-opening the following morning at 8 a.m. There’s another closure of emergency at the hospital from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 8 a.m. Wednesday.
At the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston, the emergency department is closed from 7 a.m. Wednesday, October 9th to 8 a.m. Thursday morning, the 10th. For both hospitals, there’s no doctors available to cover the shifts.
At the Eastern Memorial Hospital in Canso, the emergency department is open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The overnight closure of the ER has been ongoing for some time, because of nursing shortage.
