Some residents raise concerns as Town of Pictou plan changes to Sewer Bylaw

Jan 19, 2021 | Local News

A proposed update of the Town of Pictou’s Sewer Bylaw has got some residents concerned about costs. The update clarifies that the homeowner is responsible for the sewer line from their home to the sewer main, where it’s then the responsibility of the town. Several residents expressed concern at the meeting about the cost to homeowners who may have to make sewer line repairs in areas that would involve digging on town property, such as streets. Mayor Jim Ryan says that is not covered under the bylaw, but a cost sharing policy could be developed to answer resident’s concerns.

Second reading of the bylaw update, barring any major amendments, will take place at next month’s meeting of council.
