Some residents of the RK MacDonald Nursing Home in Antigonish have teamed up with local musicans to produce a record.
It all started with a songwriters circle at the RK last summer coordinated by local entertainer and writer Laura Teasdale.
Teasdale says she’s done several projects with the nursing home through Arts Health Antigonish, including improv and storytelling. From there, Teasdale thought a new project could be storytelling that could be turned into songs; there are a number of poets that live at the RK. The nursing home agreed to the three month project.
Teasdale says seven songs were written, and then recorded, with assistance from the RK MacDonald Nursing Home Foundation. Local musicians volunteered their time to appear on the album including Mike Melchin, Mike Arless, Justin Gregg, Barbara MacLean and Brian Murphy who also doubled as the technician. Backing vocals were provided by Ty Wallace and Susan Walsh.
The RK Songwriter’s Circle album is entitled “Music is My Heart” and can be found free online on Bandcamp and CD Baby.
